For the past year, I have had the honour of providing a home to the Golden Ninny. She is a golden statuette (Barbie in Gold Lame) awarded every year to the winner of a 'Silly' competition - last year's was Silly Games, passed on to me by Raven. In the past there have been: Silly Garb, Silly Weapons, Silly Songs - please let me know if I've forgotten any! I'll hate to see her go, but it is now my pleasure to announce the theme of this year's contest: Silly Heraldry!
Have you been lured by the Heraldry tables, but have yet to take the plunge? This competition is open to everyone, but if there are gentles who would like to create their own device, but aren't sure what they want yet, or wish to practice without repercussions, here would be your 'Golden' opportunity! Perhaps your persona has a 'Silly' or 'Evil' Twin, or you have thought of a 'Silly' Household you'd like to see? Let your imaginations run wild! There will be instructions on 'proper' heraldry available, and there are some useful Heraldry links on the SCA website(s), and I am hoping that some of our wonderful Heralds might be around if you're in dire need of assistance. There will be extra points awarded for an accompanying Poem, Song, or Story!
Gentles may wish to work on this at home and bring us their finished project, but if you are short on time or materials, you are welcome to create your masterpiece at Tavern. I will be arriving at the beginning of Tavern with paper, writing implements and more, and will set up as soon as possible. I hope to have all submissions in by 9:45 pm. The winner will be announced at 10, and presented with the best trophy they will ever receive! (well, that might be stretching it a wee bit...)
I look forward to seeing the devices created by the fertile minds of our populace! If there are smalls who wish to compete, there will be a special prize for the best Child or Youth.
