written by Kirk Einarsson, Master of Stables:
For many people, practices on Thursday nights are hard to attend; even though we see 6-10 heavy and 4-6 rapier, there are many fighters in both communities that have asked for another day for practices. For some, having one practice per week is limiting; for some, Thursdays are restrictive.
With a special Thank You to Darin Turner (most of you know him as Agnus), I am pleased to be able to make the following announcement:
Starting Oct.15, 2009, and continuing until further notice, there will be two Baronial Fight Practices each week (Heavy and Rapier welcome at BOTH practices).
When and Where: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th Thursday Evenings, 6:30-9:00pm at the Rehab Centre, 7 - 11th Street NE, Calgary (map); loaner gear available
When and Where: Almost every Sunday (see below) 12 noon - 2:30 pm at Makin Doors Building Supplies (use the back entrance) at #5, 4415 - 61st Ave SE, Calgary map)
Cost: $5/person per WEEK -- go to the Thursday OR the Sunday OR BOTH! and pay only $5.00 (a week is Monday to Sunday). If you are going to BOTH, please pay at the Thursday practice. This will be tracked by the honour system. You will still need to sign in at both practices. If you are attending the Sunday practice and went to the previous Thursday, please note beside your name that you paid on Thursday.

Montengarde hosts three Baronial level events each year. Events take preparation and work. If you are interested in running an event, make a presentation to Council. Typically you need to do this six to twelve months prior to the event. Specific deadlines are listed below. The Baron and Baroness may choose to grant the event to the prospective organizers early under special circumstances (for example, the site needs to be booked well in advance of the bid deadline).
There is a page specifically for those who want to run an event. See the Autocrat's page for information.
In addition to these events, the subjects of Montengarde are able to host Principality- or Kingdom-level events. If you are interested in hosting such an event, you will need to contact the Avacal and An Tir councils, as well as the Montengarde council.
Winter feast. Traditionally the third Saturday in January. Montengarde's largest and fanciest event, held every year since 1980. Selection of Montengarde's Rapier Champion (Dragonblade). Current attendance is from 200 to 300 people. Attracts many out-of-town visitors.
Latest bid date to host 12th Night is the August Council. The Hall usually needs to be reserved before this - typically a year in advance.
Spring feast. Traditionally the first Saturday in May. For a time, the event attracted 50 to 100 participants -- now it's a bit bigger. Selection of Montengarde's new A&S Champion (Emerald Rose) and new Bardic Chamption (Wild Rose).
Latest bid date to host Beltaine is the January Council.
May 29, 2010 - Cambrian Heights Community Association.
Montengarde's second largest event. Traditionally the third Saturday in June (though in recent years it has been combined with Hidden Treasures and held later in the summer). Often attracts out of town visitors with an attendance of 100-150. Selection of Montengarde's Heavy Champion (Dragonslayer) and Montengarde Archery Champion (Dragonblinder).
Latest bid date to host Dragonslayer is the February Council.
