“When the words come, they are merely empty shells without the music. They live as they are sung, for the words are the body and the music the spirit.”

Unto the Gracious and most Talented populace of Montengarde does Countess Karina de Elephantide send Warmest and Melodic Greetings

As with all things under the Heavens, Time moves inexorably onward; The sun sets and the winds change course. We have endured, survived, and blossomed during the plague. And in so doing, planted deep the seeds of one of the most powerful embodiments of our populace: Hope. Hope for a better future, filled with love, hugs and laughter. Good Gentles all, the time has come: The hour is at hand where I must pass the staff as your Montengarde Bardic champion. Soon, the Veil between Worlds will be at its most fleeting; Samhain fast approaches, and our Gracious Baron Blue has requested HOPE as our championship theme.

Although a letter of intent can be handed in the day of the competition, i would ask that you at this time , please declare intent to His Excellency Baron Blue and myself at your earliest convenience. This gives us the time to prepare for time allowance and other goodies/prizes we may want to contribute to those who perform.

If you would like to perform, but not vie, I ask that you also send me a private message so that I can place you within the schedule.Requirements to Vie :

#1. A letter of intent sent to His Excellency Baron Blue(excellencies@montengarde.org) and to myself (champion-bard@montengarde.org) or PRESENTED IN PERSON ON THE DAY OF THE EVENT. His Excellency Blue and I would like to extend the invitation to vie to members not only of Montengarde but also to those of Ayresgarde and Windwyrm as well. We have an entwined history with these shires and would desire to continue to support their growth through opportunities as Baronial champion. You would still be expected to promote bardic to the best of your ability on behalf of Montengarde, ensure that a Bardic activity occurs at Dragonslayer, and hold a tournament to find a successor at the following Samhain. And as always, all members of the populous are welcome and encouraged to perform as well.

#2. On the day of the event, at the prescribed time, you will have the opportunity to give 2 performances with at least 2 of the disciplines (Song, Spoken Word, Dance, Instrumental, Magic, Puppetry or any other bardic talent you may possess!) or a combination of all or some of these disciplines combined in 2 performances for the judges and assembled populace.

3. One piece (at least) is to be of period origin, presented with your best attempt at documentation. (Who? What? Where? When? and Why? are good things to cover). Documentation need not be longer than a page or two. Extra points may be given if you are able to include the theme of the day into your chosen disciplines

4. Your second piece shall be SCA appropriate but need not be period (examples include filks, stories of something that happened at an SCA event, a dance written up for an SCA event, and so on). Please include a brief description of what you know about the piece (i.e. author if known, inspiration behind the piece like tune or event, etc.). Please provide a brief write up, consisting of who wrote the piece, what song is the tune based on (if it is a song), when and where the piece was written. Again, it need not be longer than a single page.’ if you can find that information (again, extra points may be given if you are able to include the theme of the day, as described above
