See Update #1 for additional information as well as the primary PoW website

Pre-registration is not required

  • … but it is recommended by the organizers to have a rough idea of how many participants to expect. See here

Weapons Policy

This is copied from the policy for the grounds so let’s consider the Parade as part of that and avoid potential problems until we hear different from the organizers on things like shields and bows (italics being editorial commentary).

*** UPDATE *** WE HAVE PERMISSION FROM THE PARADE ORGANIZER TO BRING SHIELDS AND RATTAN!

  • Metal swords, metal knives and other active martial arts weapons are not allowed to be brought onto any of the convention grounds. Failure to comply will result in being banned from the event without refund and local authorities will be contacted. Double check that you don’t have your belt knife or axe hanging from your kit. Given the language, we should consider bows and cross bows to also be left at home, even as cool as they are until we hear differently.
  • Blunt, heavy weapons such as baseball bats and hockey sticks are prohibited. (SEE UPDATE – WE HAVE PERMISSION FOR THE PARADE!)
  • Shields or melee weapons (swords, staffs, lightsabers etc) made of foam or other lightweight materials are permitted. Please refrain from swinging weapons around or using them in an intimidating or threatening manner. Props that are used to intentionally hit or otherwise cause harm to attendees, guests or exhibitors will be immediately confiscated and the attendee will be escorted from the premises without refund. No weapon simulators.
  • No items can have sharp points, sharp edges, excessive weight or any other features that could be deemed dangerous to others. No maces, spears, or anything that might appear dangerous to a modern audience or Expo security or Calgary Police.

Dress Appropriately

  • The weather is supposed to be sunny with a high of 20 degrees, but this being Calgary, it will likely vary greatly between arrival and the parade proper.

Getting to the Parade

  • There is no parking supplied by the Parade so alternate means of getting downtown are recommended
  • The C-Train line runs one block away from the Parade route. 8th Street or Downtown Kerby Centre stops are the closest to the route
  • There are several bus stops near 8th Street and 8th Avenue
  • Ubers or Taxis are a great option with 9th Avenue remaining open, but 8th Avenue from 10th Street to Macleod may be blocked or delayed for the Parade
  • Please arrive by 10 AM. The Parade staging area is on 8th Avenue SW, between 8th Street and 9th Street. The Parade itself should be starting sometime between 10:00 and 10:15 AM.
